History of Pride Month: From Protest to Celebration

The origins of Pride Month trace back to the Stonewall Riots in 1969 in New York City. The uprising began when police raided the Stonewall Inn, a safe haven for the LGBTQ+ community. In response, the community stood up against discrimination and oppression, sparking a global movement for LGBTQ+ rights.

The following year, the first Pride Parade was held in remembrance of the Stonewall Riots. Since then, Pride has grown into a worldwide movement, celebrating courage, authenticity, and pride in one's identity.
